General Motors President Mark Reuss has stated that Cadillac supports the potential return of V8 engines to Formula 1.

“I love the V8 and how they sound. But as one of the new teams, we have great respect for the investments that have been made in the hybrid V6 engines. So if Formula 1, the FIA, and the teams decide that we go back to V8s, we will be ready,” Reuss told Motorsport Week.

Cadillac made its Formula 1 debut in 2026 as the 11th team, using Ferrari power units. The American manufacturer plans to introduce its own engine by 2028. Currently, the championship uses hybrid turbo V6 engines with nearly equal power distribution between the internal combustion engine and the electric component.
