The 2025-2026 season came to a disheartening end for LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers, as the 41-year-old NBA icon saw his team swept out of the playoffs.

In Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinals against the Oklahoma City Thunder on May 12 (local time), James fought hard with 24 points and 12 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to avoid a 4-0 series defeat. The Lakers never won a game in the series, ending James’ campaign earlier than expected.
Since entering the NBA in 2003 with the Cleveland Cavaliers, James has played for the Miami Heat, returned to Cleveland, and joined the Lakers in 2018. Over his storied career, he has won four NBA championships, four Finals MVP awards, and four regular-season MVP honors, cementing his status as a league legend.
After winning a title with the Lakers in 2020, James aimed for another championship this season with a star-studded roster. However, key player Luka Dončić missed the playoffs with a hamstring injury, and Austin Reaves was also limited by injuries, leaving the Lakers powerless against the Thunder.
Now, basketball fans are wondering whether James will return for the 2026-2027 season.

Speaking to reporters after the game, James said, “I don’t know what the future holds. I’ll talk to my family, and when the time comes, you’ll know what I’ve decided.”
Local reports suggest James might extend his contract with the Lakers, but there are also possibilities of him joining another team or retiring. “I’ve done everything and seen everything,” James stated. “There’s nothing left to prove in this league.” He added, “Competing and chasing championships is what motivates me.”
