Córdoba secured their sixth consecutive victory by defeating Granada 1-0 at El Arcángel, thanks to a stunning goal from Jacobo González. The win keeps them firmly in the hunt for a playoff spot as the regular LaLiga Hypermotion season nears its end. Iván Ania’s side now sits on 60 points, just five points behind sixth place with only three matches remaining.
The updated Segunda División standings reflect the fierce competition.
**Competition Format**
The Spanish Segunda División operates on a 42-match regular season. Teams accumulate points based on results, determining the final classification at the campaign’s close. At season’s end, the top two teams earn automatic promotion to LaLiga. Meanwhile, clubs finishing between third and sixth enter the promotion playoffs, a knockout phase that decides which team claims the final spot in Spain’s top flight. At the bottom, the four lowest-ranked teams are relegated to Primera Federación.
The current LaLiga Hypermotion season began on August 15 and will wrap up on May 31 after 462 regular-season matches. The promotion playoffs start one week later.
The playoff system consists of two-legged ties. In each matchup, the lower-ranked team hosts the first leg, while the higher-ranked team hosts the return leg. If the aggregate score remains level after 180 minutes and possible extra time, no penalty shootout occurs. Instead, the tie is resolved by the “sports advantage” rule, favoring the club that finished higher in the regular season standings.
Playoff semifinals pit the third-placed team against the sixth, and the fourth against the fifth. The winners advance to a two-legged final, with the victor earning promotion to LaLiga for the 2026-2027 season.
