Premlall became the eighth player this season to win his first DP World Tour title.

South Africa’s Yurav Premlall came within a single stroke of eclipsing Tiger Woods’ 26-year-old record for the largest winning margin on the DP World Tour, after a commanding victory at the Catalunya Championship. The 22-year-old fired a final-round 63 to finish at 28 under par, winning by 14 shots over fellow South African Shaun Norris.

Woods, the American legend, holds the all-time record with a 15-shot victory at the 2000 US Open. Premlall matched his own third-round 63 with another flawless display, carding 10 birdies and one bogey to seal the win.

Along with nearly €400,000 (£345,000) in prize money, Premlall earned an additional $50,000 (£36,700) for setting a new course record with his 63. The victory also lifted him from 598th to 250th in the world rankings, and from 157th to 26th in the Race for Dubai standings.

“I’m speechless,” said Premlall. “I’ve worked incredibly hard to put myself in this position, and to finally see the results is so rewarding. The past eight or nine months have been a real struggle, just trying to build a platform where I could give myself a chance to win. To end up here is a dream come true.”

The win came in his 29th start on the DP World Tour, with his previous best being a tie for 19th at the 2024 Alfred Dunhill Championship. “There’s not much else I can say,” he added. “My whole team, my support system, my family – it’s so satisfying to stand here and thank everyone who has been part of this journey.”
